Hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland, David William was a relative latecomer to music, picking up a guitar for the first time when he was 18 yrs old. Inspired to do so by the Britpop scene of the time, he soon became obsessed with music new and old, and was writing songs before he could play guitar properly (something he still hasn't got round to doing!). Imagine the sound of a fine wine being poured, a coal fire burning on a cold winter's night, the screech of a knife on a plate as you cut through an uncompromising steak.... Well, that's not the sound of David William's music. Describing it is no easy task. What remains constant are the subtle melodies that weave their way into your head. The dreamy, thought-provoking lyrics that at first glance appear random statements only to reveal the nuances of everyday life and the thoughts and feelings running through your own head. Framed inside atmospheric arrangements with the odd chord twist here and there, the musical influences in these songs are not always clear. Neil Finn, Bob Marley, The Beatles, Neil Young, Travis, Dave Dobbyn, The Smiths and Simon & Garfunkel are notable mentions. Since seriously pursuing a living from music at the tail end of 2002, David received airplay (most notably on Manx Radio) for the first time at the beginning of 2003 with a home demo of his song "Come & Go". Written years before in a cold, damp council high-rise, this track would eventually go on to make it to the Finals of the UK Songwriting Contest 2005. His second entry, "One Way Ticket", made it to the Semi-Finals of the same competition. At the beginning of 2004, his first release was issued - a 6 track EP of home demos entitled "Head Above Water". Later that year, David would take his songs further by beginning work on a 12-track debut album, working with local producer Mick McGarr (Conrad Productions). For the next year and a half, this was to be his focus, locked in the studio, carefully honing and layering the songs. The album was completed in January 2006 and is due to be released shortly...
