Jet Black Joy's Newsletter
Genre:
Rock (Hard Rock)
Hometown:
Denver, Colorado
Formed in the waning days of 1999, an unfortunate time when every poser was ditching his guitar for a pair of turntables, Jet Black Joy was locked and loaded for their part in what they see as a new rock ‘n roll revolution. It is a rebellion with a mantra that screams "We wanna hear some fuckin' rock!" And from the moment of their inception Jet Black Joy has been searing the paint off rock-club walls. Loud, brazen and true, Jet Black Joy's sound is the sonic tongue-lashing contemporary music so desperately needs.
Having bulldozed the Denver, Colo. music scene with their monster guitar hooks and bone-rattling percussion work, the quartet is happy to pause and sound off about their time-honored rock lifestyle.
"Sure, I love the music, but what I really like about this band is the opportunity to wear silly clothes," reveals drummer Bryan Black. A drummer for as long as he can remember, Bryan also plays guitar. But his fate was predetermined. When asked to put down his axe and re-arm with a pair of drumsticks, Black solidified his place in rock history with the reply: "You know it, man."
Singer Jimi Jet comes from the same space, internally. "Look, I'm not trying to change the world," muses the rowdy frontman. "I just want people to be more socially aware. Aware that I'm drinking my ass off for free." Having honed his talents on the road opening for Avail, Doc Hopper and NRA, Jet dove headlong into the realm of recorded music with the single "Indifference", released on German cassette label We've Had Enough Recordings. He soon joined forces with Commander Adama of "Agression" fame, releasing a full-length under the guise Negative Man on Canada's Amp Records. After splitting a 7-inch with Schooch Pooch artists The Ladonnas on Rum Dummy Records, Jet intuited the need to front future arena-rockers Jet Black Joy.
Chums since high school, bassist Nuclear J and guitar buddha Biggie Joy began the search for rock salvation with heavy drinking and air guitar. Having moved on to real instruments, Jet Black Joy is a reality.
"There is no hidden agenda with our music," observes bassist J with typical humility. "I just really enjoy loading and unloading equipment."
To this Joy comments, "I don't know where these jokers would be without me. We practice in my basement and use my recording equipment, and as a show of gratitude what do they do? They treat my place like a fucking outhouse. That's what they do."
The squalling bastard child of rock 'n roll, whose voice is a primal scream echoing Van Halen, Kiss and AC\DC, Jet Black Joy relies on good old-fashioned alcohol-soaked mayhem to get them - and you - through the night. In all the ways that give you that funny tingle between your legs, Jet Black Joy take you back in time. To a simpler time. When the beer was cheap, the girls were easy and the music was loud. jetblackjoy@hotmail.com
