Rolan Duvvury (born July 29, 1987 in Houston, Texas) is currently a fifth year student at Georgia Tech. He graduated from Plano Senior High School with Honors in May 2005. He is currently pursuing a double B.S. in architecture and civil engineering, as well as a music certificate. In addition to his studies at Georgia Tech, Rolan Duvvury is also an award-winning composer of symphonic and chamber works. He is a five-time state first place winner of the TMTA Compositional Contest and a three-time national finalist in the MTNA Compositional Contest. His first symphonic piece "Triumphant Hero" was performed in May 2005 by the Plano Senior High School Symphony Orchestra and Chorus to showcase the music department for an award of excellence presented by the Grammy® Foundation. He was interviewed and featured in the Plano Star Courier prior to the performance. In February 2007, the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra performed the second movement of his Symphony No. 1 as part of their spring concert. In January 2007, he scored the music for the short film Fanya Kaplan which won the national “Best Picture” award for Campus MovieFest. This film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2008. Recently, he scored the music for the short film All That Is Human which was screened at the Hudson Theatre on Broadway in New York City and won national “Best Drama” as part of the 2008 Campus MovieFest Grand Finale. When he is not busy with his studies or composing music, he has a number of other extracurricular activities. He is currently a member of the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra and has been so since Fall 2005 to present. He plays piano, violin, and percussion in the orchestra. He is a classical music DJ for WREK Radio 91.1 FM, the student radio station of Georgia Tech. In addition, he is involved with sports including swimming and basketball. Last year, his team advanced to the playoffs in the PowerAde® College Intramurals for Georgia Tech.
