Rock stars die, dude, that's a fact. This week we take a look at the recently departed and discuss the plans for the sprinkling of your podcaster after he shakes off this mortal coil. We can only hope that he buys the farm mid-podcast. That would be really cool.
In addition there's new music by Iggy Pop and the BPA, Glasvegas, The Plastic Billionaires (covering Brian Eno!) plus lots of wacky collaborations and plenty of the classics that have made this podcast an awesome time waster in Fiji.

Damn, where'd 2008 go? Was I too busy stuffing my retirement into a mattress to notice the steadily flipping calender pages as the last year that I'll ever be able to call myself "in my forties" slipped by? Wha hoppin?
Don't fret, clock watchers, we get to start the whole thing again from scratch, but not until we review the splendor that was 2008!
Start the engines on the motorcade, and paint the White House black, cause it's time to rock 2008 style!

Wouldn’t it be great if you could go back and listen to all the music you love for the first time? Well, unless you have a time machine that’s impossible, but it is possible to see the joy of discovery on some else’s face when THEY hear it for the first time. That’s the concept behind this week’s special THE PUNK ROCK PRIMER. My grand daughter ZOË is turning 13 this week and in a bid to bring her to the dark side of the musical universe, I present this punk rocking extravaganza. Prepare to be overcome with nostalgia and equally offended by how different my version of what makes a great punk song differs from your own. It’s just semantics, though! This is a 2 hour gift to new teens everywhere (and to those of you that might have missed out on the whole punk thing in the first place).
Break out the Clearasil and stop slouching, ‘cause it’s time to rock!

Your host ponders the podcast's trajectory from "shit hot" to "dead as the 8-track" in three short years. If a podcast plays in the forest and nobody hears it...ah, shit, you know what I mean, I'm wondering just how long I continue to do the show with the knowledge that nobody (perhaps even you), listens any longer. It's quite a conundrum.

In the history of epic border battles, none is more contentious than the one that exists between me and anyone else who tries to play music in my house, and if that person is a teenager, well, it's a given that I'm going to hate whatever they play, even if it's music that I already like. Such is the duality of being a know-it-all music nerd who thinks teenagers, be they pre-teen or post, should be seen and not heard, and quite frankly wishes we could send them all to one of those "scared straight" camps until they are old enough to drink beer. All this is covered in the first five minutes of the show.
After a quick recovery (and a glass of sake), it's discussions of the weather around the globe, the poor state of American manufacturing, and some none too subtle begging for free music, and in lieu of that, cold hard cash. Jeez, no wonder my audience stubbornly refuses to grow.

Hey There!
We had company last weekend (the oft mentioned Rick Ferdinande and his wonderful new gal pal, Tami) and we went to see Ministry, so my weekend was one day in Baltimore visiting with Burton C. Bell and Ministry and one day whining in misery about my hangover. That left no time for the podcast you long for. New show later this week!
Also, friend of the show Paul has invented an In My Room discussion group on Facebook. You can upload photos and videos and maybe eventually music, and though it's kind of spartan now, with your help it could be kind of cool.

Talk amongst yourselves, I'll be back soon.

Find out this week what the Pope's fav band is (Husker Du), his fav hockey team (The Caps), and of course his fav city (Washington, DC, of course)! The Pope rocks!
Plus, are mixers just pretty colors to entice us to drink more? Has Neil Fallon sold out? And, has Brian Eno really bridged the gap between himself and his greatest collaborator? Gee, I hope so, because I claim all these things to be true on this week's show.

This show is dedicated to the memory and the fab drumming of Klaus Dinger. Klaus, we hardly knew ye! Plus, what would happen if Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard had a baby? I don't know either, in fact perish the thought of that high octane coupling, but I know it would sound a lot by this week's exclusive track by the JIM JONES REVUE! Mix in some Krautrock and some Danny Gatton and Buck Owens and you've got a truly horrifying rock and roll stew. Hang onto your gallbladder, friends, it's time to rock!

By the end of last week I was convinced that I had been booted off of Garageband.com. I couldn't get any of my sets to upload, I couldn't get the tech people or customer service to respond to my emails. The podcast was dead in the water. So, I did what any reasonable podcaster would do, I jumped ship. You can find the fruits of my labor at http://inmyroom.mypodcast.com. That's the new secondary home of inmyroompodcast. It's extremely user friendly and great for people that "stream" the podcast, or those of you that download it directly from the site (Bob Keough, this means you!), so stop by there to see what I did with my weekend, much to my Bunny's consternation. Please note I said "secondary" home, because by Monday evening Garageband had contacted me and they'd have technical issues and now everything was Okey-Dokey, even better than before, so now I bring you this show back at inmyroompodcast.com where it belongs.
Please note that this show is full of paranoid ranting by a man (me) who thought that he'd been thrown off of his home for the previous three years. "Paranoid" is the magic word in that sentence.
So, from this day forward you can find this show weekly on either site, please bookmark them both, cause if one boots me out, I've always got the other to fall back on. BTW, this is a great show, so let's rock!

Your host gets on his soap box and shouts to the world, I love compression! Also in the course of said dissertation, waxes nostalgic for cassettes and claims that musicians are fabulous whiners. Best of 2007! (volume one)
Dan Hicks said it best, "How can I miss you if you won't go away?" Listeners of In My Room podcast are pondering that eternal question even now, as your host, hardly two weeks after announcing a lengthy hiatus, is back in your computer demanding attention. Some people just never know when to quit.

It's rude to die at Christmas!
Yes, we're all going to die (as stated in what may be this year's UK #1 Christmas single), but hopefully not in the next week, because dying on Christmas is just rude! Think of this show as my gift to you, and trust me when I tell you that it will be the most heartfelt one given this year.
Shake those shiny Christmas balls, kiss a stranger, it's time to rock!

Mommy says I'm special!
An alcoholic
Is one who drinks all alone.
So, I got a cat.
There's a new cat in the Edwards household this weekend, a nameless grey tabby who likes to leap about and squeak in frustration. Molly dog loves the new cat, it was love at first anus sniff, but Matilda, now the head muckity muck in the cat hierarchy is busy displaying dominance by hissing and running away. Your help in naming said new kitty is hereby requested.
On the podcast there is a passionate discussion about the repeal of prohibition, a surprising factoid that the English drink a lot, and further discussion of new Wire music and my burgeoning friendship with Edvard Graham Lewis, aka Earl. I love me some Earl. Oh!and Surgens music debuting here and no where else! And news about the future of Burton C. Bell's new group ASCENSION OF THE WATCHERS.
Pop a fresh one, little punkers, it's time to rock!

Reunited (and it feels so profitable!)
Nostalgia is the new currency for aging punk bands and your host warns you this week about the most recent nefarious plans by balding, paunchy former art students to rob you of money that almost certainly should be in your 401k. Beware! Also a discussion of the first 10 releases by Robert Pollard in December (one for nearly every word I type) and a preview of the anxiety that is the holiday season. Hurray! It's time to rock!

some velvet morning
Ho-Ho-Phobia (HHP): A profound fear of rotund, bearded men in red suits and black boots. HHP outbreaks usually surface in late November, when sufferers begin to report frequent sightings of their most feared apparition on street corners, in shop windows and on TV commercials for local car dealerships. Often referring to these men as Santa Claus, St. Nick or "chortling fatboy," the afflicted appear most unsettled by what they call "department store Santas," whom they insist "are constantly surrounded by cranky little men in green outfits who keep glancing at their watches." (See following related disorders.)
North-Polar Disorder (NPD): The chronic fear that someone is on the roof.
Blitzen Fits (BF): Uncontrollable tantrums resulting from the belief that reindeer have befouled one's driveway.
Calendar Countdown Condition (CCC): An unyielding obsession with how many shopping days are left until Christmas. Constantly reaching for PDAs and notepads, CCC sufferers feel a pressing need to absorb and retain a daunting litany of time zones, store hours and driving mileage in support of their shop-or-drop obsession. "It's amazing," notes Harvard University's Arnold Belfry, who has studied CCC. "Some of these people can't even balance their checkbooks. But can they number-crunch the time it takes to get to the Radio Shack on Route 40? Down to the millisecond." CCC is most commonly found among former math majors, chronic coupon-clippers and old ladies who still use tiny change purses.

a casket full of tomatoes
Your host finds himself jealous of an unknown beer critic, so he takes matters into his own hands and breaks down the merits of a new latino alcoholic beverage that may scar your taste buds for all time. Also, a discussion of "one of the ugliest men in the world", surprising kind words for Robert Plant, and a "Let's Make A Deal" situation that proposes a trade between podcaster and audience (which may or may not be legal).
Throw your clam juice in the air and yes, yes! like you just don't care, it's time to rock!

china, it's time to get punk
What time is it? Time to get packed, time to get anxious, time to get ill, it must be time to go to China! Will a couple of flight attendants and a half drunk pilot manage to get my nervous ass to China in one piece? Damn, I hope so. Oh, and it's time to podcast. Prepare yourself for high anxiety and par the norm, goofy, unsubstantiated opinions, nervous babbling and more than a little wine drinking to make the whole shebang go down easy. I suggest you chill a glass, too. It's time to throw your flight insurance in the air and dui dui (mandarin for yes yes)like you just don't care, let's rock!

my first day in hell is going to be a doozy! (Jake Einstein is dead)
I heard that it's a sin to speak ill of the dead, so hang on for the spiel that's going to get me an engraved invitation to hell. Also a long distance dedication to some long bearded guy that lives in a bunker, idle bitching from Johnny Rotten, an update on Robert Gordon and a map of how to get from Texas to the UK in 12 minutes or less. Throw your eyeball nickels in the air, and yes yes like you just don't care, it's time to rock!

have you hugged your podcaster today?
If you see a man with a shaved head and a little beard walking the streets today, head down, looking a little worse for the wear, well give that dude a hug. It won't be me, mind you, but I'll appreciate the thought. And who knows, you might just make a new friend. Or get kidnapped, or punched. Either way, I'll be amused and that's why I suggest it. Oh, and if you see a Lab mix walking on three legs, give that dog a hug, too. Just listen to the show, you'll understand.

Are coffee and rock and roll mutually exclusive? That's the question before ye in a thought provoking and "very special" edition of In My Room. 104 X U!
Wow, who'd a thunk that two years after I started this labor of love I'd still be sitting by my computer, talking at length to a shrinking audience and loving it like it was brand new. Not me, but thanks for coming along for the ride. On this rockin' anniversary show I've got some new stuff from Unkle, a brooding new classic from Nick Cave and Grinderman, a velvety slice of sad pop from The SADS and lots of the fabuolous crap that keeps to coming back to this mighty money podcast. I hope I don't die before I get old
My computer problems persist but thanks to the Bunny's computer I come to you on this fine Saturday night tanked up on cheap American beer and bitching about the future of Tequila and biofuel, offering you a story that may or may not be true about Syd Barret and Pink Floyd, and as usual extoling my crackpot opinions about new wave in Washington, the horrors of Amusement parks and the joys of getting really, really old. Throw you walker in the air, ya'll, it time to roque out, coque out!

Calling from the Funhouse
Is it possible that Iggy Pop is a punk rock super hero? How else to explain his pecs of steel at age 59? Could he be a chest cutting cyborg, so disgusted by the exploits of man that he must detroy himself to become more human? Do robots even like intravenous drugs? These are all questions better considered on a more fact based show than my own, 'cause all I can give you is exclusive live Stooges from the legendary Nightclub 9:30. That's right, live Iggy from this last Thursday! You might even hear Bunny and I yelping in pain as some fat, yuppie who fancies himself a slam dancer steps on our collective foot. Also new music from Portastatic, Wilco, The Rakes, The Fratellis and a cautionary tale about snorting ones Father and a battle for who is the real REM. Yup, put down the remote, fatty, cause you're the one for me. It's time to rock!

Don't be fooled by the pretty faces and dangerous curves, girls are bad ass! Your host gets all warm and fuzzy with the new DC Roller Derby league (DC RollerGirls), later a cruel attack on a bald, pit faced rock star (who should be in the Clearasil Hall of Fame!) and much love for a drunken English girl who stole his rock and roll heart away. Like any good pit there might be bodily harm, but put on your knee pads, it's time to rock (and roll!)

sing it loud, pilgarlic and proud!
pil·gar·lic
–noun
1. a person regarded with mild or pretended contempt or pity. (this might be me)
2. (perhaps more correctly) a baldheaded man.
Creative geniuses are always defensive, so with that in mind your chrome domed host goes into a defensive posture after long time listener and a friend of the show, known to some as LCD attacks him for his well versed opinions on the new Stooges CD. Also some whining about slings and arrows being cast at Internet Radio, and a nice back waxing for the brilliant Johnny Marr. Oh, The Hoyas are on! You rock, I gotta roll!

hippies aren't all that bad...
It’s a big world premiere, debut kind of week. Who’d a thunk it, but I’m the first dude in the world to play the new Frank Black version of “Gimme Danger” recorded for Ghost Recon 2 (whatever the frig that is) with drummer extraordinaire Raymond Herrera (from Fear Factory). It’s mighty cool. Also leaked Kings of Leon, more leaky Dinosaur Jr., a ripping version of “Cortez the Killer” by Built to Spill, and of course, lots of blather by yours truly. Have some dip, friends (it’ll help), and let’s rock!

Your host makes a bold prediction based on a non-commital email from Colin Newman and goes on record with WIRE IS BACK TOGETHER. Even the mystery 8 ball disagrees, but I only consider its prognostication to be reliable when it agrees with me. Which isn't often. "Answer Hazy" indeed, let's rock!

Your host is sassy after a long week of toil and outlines his New Years resolutions (soon to be forgotten), attacks poor innocent Brian Eno and plays a whole slew of MySpace bands that he’s been meaning to get to for weeks. Oh, and at some point (you decide when) reveals what a big dummy he is. Put on your soft helmet and let’s rock!
